A path, a voice.
Mezzo-soprano Charlotte Gagnon is a versatile and daring opera singer, as well as an enthusiastic entrepreneur and administrator. In addition to performing regularly on Canadian stages in both opera and recitals, Charlotte collaborates with a wide range of artists on multidisciplinary projects, notably Ceux qui répondent à l’écho (premiere 2023), a musical and audiovisual performance piece, and R I T U E L (research/creation 2021), a performative exploration of contemporary sacred symbolism.
Passionate about cultural outreach, she works at the Opéra de Montréal as Social Action and Education Manager, where she leads various projects aimed at sharing the benefits of opera with all audiences. She specialises in particular in the use of operatic singing techniques as a mechanism for respiratory and vocal rehabilitation (RESPIRER, 2022–2025; La voix harmonisée, 2023–2025).
A committed artist sensitive to the environmental challenges facing our era, in 2024 she created, in partnership with the AgeTeq laboratory, the project L’Écho des plantes, a collaborative opera workshop for children and teenagers aimed at alleviating eco-anxiety among young people through creativity and the music of plants. As co-founder and Executive and Artistic Director of Rigoletta, an organisation dedicated to introducing children to opera, she is committed to making classical music more accessible.
