Detailed career

A path, a voice.

A Montreal native, soprano Chantal Lambert graduated with highest honours from the Conservatoire de musique du Québec, having been unanimously awarded First Prize, under the mentorship of tenor André Turp and accompanist Janine Lachance.  She then undertook a three-year internship at the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal, where she honed her skills under the guidance of leading masters and artists. She made her professional debut in the role of Métella (La Vie parisienne) with the company Les Nouvelles Variétés Lyriques.

Having taken over from Yvonne Goudreau in 1990, she has shaped the Atelier lyrique into an institution in her own image, where the demands of training do not come at the expense of human relationships. Since 1990, she has remained faithfully at the helm of this very same programme for young Canadian artists at the Opéra de Montréal, which was her alma mater.

Chantal Lambert has continued to perform on stage in opera, operetta, art songs and popular songs. She has sung in sixteen productions at the Opéra de Montréal, notably the title role in *La Belle Hélène* and the sole role in Poulenc’s *La Voix humaine*.  In concert, she has been frequently invited as a soloist with the Orchestre Métropolitain, I Musici and the Orchestre baroque de Montréal. She has featured in the programmes of several festivals (Orford, Lanaudière, Lachine, Trois-Rivières). Recitals have also punctuated her career since the turn of the millennium.  She is also highly regarded for her contribution to the training of the next generation of young opera singers.

Praised for her natural gift for communication, her knowledge of opera and her high standards, Chantal Lambert is a frequent presenter and host at numerous concerts, and several programmes for young artists call upon her expertise in the fields of performance, operatic diction and career development. (e.g.: Orford Arts Centre, Canadian Operatic Arts Academy, Highlands Opera Studio, the Lachine International Academy). She is the author of a linguistic work: Petit lexique de l’Opéra (French, English, Italian and German) for the use of opera singers.  She served as president of the Conseil québécois de la musique from 2008 to 2011 and has been a member of the board of directors of Opera.ca (the association of Canadian opera companies) since autumn 2018.
